I step into the gate, the anxiety of what is to come fuels the adrenaline that begins to coarse through my veins.  To keep myself from tensing I begin kicking my feet, rolling my shoulders and neck, finally I am amped.  Tipping my head back, arms resting on top of my poles I stare off into the clear blue sky, eyes wide, the cold air stinging my nose as I take deep breaths, this is the calming force. 3..2..1 counts down. To me the next 24 seconds will define my Olympic dream.

I never once looked back, my natural abilities for skiing kicked in and the thrill of success caught on when I was five years old. Skiing a trail on Gore Mountain, Gun Barrel dropping off cliffs, hopping moguls and jumping rocks all to the applause of the people riding the lift above the trail cheering me on.  Both amazed and amused that a kid so tiny could do such “big” things.  Many who witnessed my abilities on “Gun Barrel” met me at the base lodge, holding out napkins for me to sign. They wanted one of my first autographs, pronouncing that I would someday do something great. Heady stuff for a five year old!! But it gave me the surge all athletes need to pursue their dreams.

My preparation for the season and one of my goals is always to be amongst the strongest guys in the competition.  I train year round in the gym, alongside skiing during the winter and practicing jumps at the pool during the summer months. My Olympic dream comes with its injuries, such as a fractured shoulder, a broken thumb and many broken bones in my foot.  I have taken little time off as a result of these injuries and believe that reflects what kind of strength and determination I possess.
